Who ya’ pouring into?

“As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.” Galatians‬ ‭6:10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I’ve heard it said, “You didn’t get saved to sit.” We each have assignments. We all have stuff to “do”- unique and tailor made for our abilities. Our gifts and talents are needed whether widely publicly seen or in private one-on-one. People need them. They are necessary. We are God’s feet and hands on earth. He accomplishes many tasks through us to assist others.

My prayer

Walk in what God has given you. Use whatever it is to bless folk.

I originally began writing/journaling for my own sanity many years ago. Then I shared only with a few close friends and family due to my own insecurity. With encouragement I recognized I needed to share broadly so others may be blessed. (How my book was birthed. Now, I’m in a new phase with this blog.)

I need to also say – marvel at what God has given others. My close friends did that and now I share with all of you. Encourage folk like I encourage each of you today. I’m excited for others and love to see God work in any way.

So, who are ya’ pouring into today? Doesn’t have to be a grand act. Many times the greatest effect is gained by the smallest act. Could be a simple phone call or perhaps an act that affects millions. Step out in confidence knowing God is with you and has ordained you.

Have hope in others…

My cousin Tianna sends a daily scripture verse and encouragement faithfully in our cousin text group. A couple of days ago our reading included this verse:

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” 2 Corinthians‬ ‭5:17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Actually, it was in the New International Version in our group text. I have it memorized in King James. Here it is in NIV:

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” 2 Corinthians‬ ‭5:17‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Anyone??

The word “anyone” stood out for me in the NIV version. It’s like I read this scripture for the very first time with new eyes. What came to mind – ANYONE who has confessed Christ has the potential to alter their ways.

It hit me like a ton of bricks and now I am repenting from viewing that scripture with an extremely selfish eye. I often consider how I am and have become a new creature. Do I have enough faith and trust in God that I believe that others have the opportunity to change too? Do I have enough hope within me?

If God can do the miraculous feat within me of creating newness and shifting my perspective and ways – why can’t I believe he can do it in others?

I’m not suggesting we blindly believe and assume everyone changes overnight. We’re all through Christ works in progress. What I am saying is – change and newness is possible. With man things are impossible, but with God all things are possible . (Matthew 19:26 , Mark 10:27) If God did it in you, He can accomplish change in others.

Newness actually happens within us when we make this change in thought process. It is contrary to human nature to think of others. That’s why it is written and pointed out in Galatians:

“As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.” Galatians‬ ‭6:10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

We need to pray in earnest expectation for the change/newness in all other believers. We need to move into newness by changing our mindset. We need to have hope for change and a shift for newness in others.

Whose report will you believe? My personal testimony…

A little over a year ago a good friend told me for the third time in a year – “Daph, something isn’t right.” “You need to go back to the doctor again.” “Make the appointment!” Candice insisted and told me, “I’ll go with you.” Well, strategically this conversation was held in front of my mother who ended up going with me since Candice couldn’t. You see, I was short of breath. I was easy irritated. I was tired all the time and not sleeping well. It had been awhile I felt like this.

To make a long story short – I went to my doctor and was referred to a pulmonologist who sent me for testing. I had a blood-gas test done. As soon as the nurse drew my blood she asked, “How long have you been on oxygen?” I responded, “I haven’t been.” She then said, “I hate to tell you but, you will be.” She said, “Your blood should be a bright red due to oxygen flowing through your body.” She showed me. My blood at the time was a very dark burgundy color – almost black.

My life and lifestyle changed at that moment.

Within two days multiple oxygen tanks and a condenser were delivered to my home. It was overwhelming! I couldn’t even take in all the instructions and had my nephew there to hear along with me. I was told not only did I need to be connected to oxygen while awake, but also needed to connect it to my CPAP machine while sleep.

I fought being relegated to pulling around a large wheeled oxygen tank. In the first week I called the doctor to ask if I could have a portable one. He said no. I didn’t go anywhere for the first week or so. Somehow I was still working.

The biggest hurdle – No doctor would say whether it was possible to get off of oxygen in the future. No one gave hope.

Something (the Holy Spirit) deep inside me moved and silently said – I’m God. I’m in control. I am not just a healer – I am THE HEALER! Do as they say. Wear the oxygen. Use the CPAP machine. Listen to the nutritionist. Lose the weight. This is just a temporary state. You have much more to do for me.

I saw the looks of gloom on some faces. When people would ask, I would let them know, “Oh this is temporary.” “I have too much more to do!” I dragged that tank to meetings, on trips, to family gatherings. I dragged it in and out of Christina Cultural Arts Center – where the parents I worked with often reminded me in the midst of running around that I needed it.

I refused to believe the report. I did what they told me, but I rejected the sentence pronounced. Tests now show no permanent damage to heart or lungs! Basically, I need to use my CPAP machine at night to assist me in obtaining proper sleep/breathing along with proper diet.

The most important thing I learned. Watch whose report you believe. Call those things in God’s Will which aren’t as though they were. Seek God and believe/create your own report from that. Use wisdom, knowledge and understanding while in the process – follow wise counsel and be obedient.

Go against the grain…

Due to the rainy weather Sunday morning I visited my old pastor Rev. Ralph T. Lampkins’ church worshiping in Wilmington. He preached from Numbers 13 which recounts the story of the spies being sent out 40 days to seek out the land promised. He focused on our personal perception and choices we make when what we see in front of us doesn’t quite line up with what God has spoken.

What I’m still pondering and processing – going beyond my own choice and being that person – the one – that “goes against the grain” of the group and speaks God’s vision regardless. I desire to be the person that speaks life to tough situations that have giants, challenges and looks not so great. I want to not only walk and work it out within myself – but also to have the boldness and faith to voice God’s plan.

I want to be a Caleb. In the book of Numbers it gives an account after a number of the 12 that spied the promised land brought back the negative report, even though there was evidence that what God said was true:

“And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.” Numbers‬ ‭13:30‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Caleb was a bold individual that believed beyond the giants and perception. Not only did he believe- he professed publicly, led and encouraged others.

My prayer for me and you – to not only view and accept God’s plan personally, but also for our own to actions and words to follow and influence those around us. I know it is a difficult task, especially when we’re dealing with what seems hopeless family, work and personal situations. We must keep in mind with man things are impossible, but with God all things are possible.

He that hath begun…

https://youtu.be/iSiVzBC-Sms

I know God has worked through me in the past to accomplish work for His Kingdom which benefited others. I’ve grown a thriving youth department, written original curriculum for Vacation Bible School for numerous years, taught Adult Sunday School/Children’s Church, self-published a devotional book and had opportunity to address congregation several times as a lay person on Sundays. Glory! I’ve even had opportunity to lead individuals to Christ.

My question- what next God? I feel so far from all those things. To be honest – I feel like I’m in limbo. I’m having what I call a “spiritual growth spurt,” but need to find a place (church home) to exercise my gifts fully.

The problem- At times I feel very out of the box and unorthodox – not a rebel but just different. In the last two weeks two different people have referred to me as in the belly of the whale. I’m not sure exactly how I’ve been disobedient. I don’t feel as though I’m “running” from any assignment. I’m just not sure what the next task is, so I’m standing still. (Well not completely still. I started this blog.)

It’s not that my gifts/talents can’t be utilized again – I just know there’s more, another level and perhaps a different direction. I fear being shoved and relegated to a box.

The one thing I do know and can stand on is God’s Word. “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:” Philippians‬ ‭1:6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

As the song above describes – I AM EXCITED!! I’m embracing whatever the plans He has for me – plans to prosper and not to harm me and to give me hope for the future.

Be encouraged if you are in the same state/place that I am. Do now what you know now to do. Seek God and don’t get discouraged. He began the work in you and will continue…

A Good Saturday!

This is gonna be a good Saturday!

This song right here is now on repeat. The part that gets me the most, makes me feel sumthin’ deep down and makes me grin – “He’s just too good to just be good!”

Even in the worst of times God does “exceedingly and abundantly above” all we ask or think. (Eph 3:20) He’s better than good to us – at times we have to renew our minds to see or view, but He is. He’s consistent. Scripture says, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” Hebrews‬ ‭13:8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

He’s just too good not to praise and worship Him this day and every day for some reason.

Welcome!

This is just musings of my thoughts and observations…

I Give You Jesus,
The Greatest Gift

Well, I’ve been led to start a blog. Prayerfully people will join, read and comment. Text became bothersome and annoying to some, email takes some maneuvering of addresses – this way people who want to read can visit when they choose.

This is a new medium to me. Please excuse my learning curve. I’m sure I’ll improve as I go along.

I pray that I encourage, enlighten and inspire through my writings. It is all out of love…of God and of people. I am careful not to assume the credit, but attempt to write by unction of the Holy Spirit. I pray you enjoy!
